Tries: Rob Hill
There were two very impressive debuts in this from the opposite ends of the rugby spectrum. Weighing in around the 10 stone level was Paul Ratcliffe, son of Dave, playing on the wing. 10 stone heavier than him was Jason Massingham playing his first game for the Extras.
The result did not go Ampthill’s way largely due to a 21 stone centre playing for Biggleswade who seemed to put the Extras off the idea of tackling. Take away his three tries and the story may well have been very different.
Ampthill did play well in places. Paul Ratcliffe was impressive under high balls and showed a great deal of pace when he had the ball.
Some great team work led to a Rob Hill try but this was not enough. If the Extras were a team that trained it would be out with the tackle bags on Tuesday and Thursday. But they are not.
A very proud Ratty had his face covered with a huge grin after he’d played rugby in the same team as his son for the first time.
