Tries: Kevin Smith (2), Tom Gray (4), Aiden Harrington, Ian Browning
Cons: Dave Ratcliffe, Rob Hill, Ian Browning
Ratty’s car lost en route to Wellingborough delayed the kick off for a short while on yet another cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon. The much larger Wellingborough team boasted no fewer than six props. The Extras took full advantage of this by constantly playing the ball out wide to the backs.
Kevin ‘Smudger’ Smith was first to score as the Extra’s backs ripped through the Wellingborough defence. Tom Gray’s support play ensured that he too was soon on the score sheet. Smudger bagged his brace in the first half. With the first two conversions missed by the usually reliable Rob Hill & Ian Browning it was down to Ratty to slot the ball between the posts for the Extras.
Once Smudger was on two tries his distribution of the
ball became more eager. It was Smudger that put Tom in for his second in a clear
display of jug avoidance. In the second half it was to be Tom that would touch
down for his hat-trick only to then go on and score a fourth.
There were tries too for Aiden Harrington and Ian Browning but the biggest cheer of the day came when Gary Bass successfully scored a conversion.
