Ampthill Extras 59 – Kibworth Vets 12

 Much needed win for Extras.

Back on home soil the Extras finally put an end to their run of losses with an emphatic win over Kibworth vets.

Despite the score the game was by no means all plane sailing for the Extras. In the early stages of the game Kibworth twice equalised after Ampthill’s first two tries. The experienced Kibworth pack were asking all sorts of questions of the home team’s front five.

Once the Extras realised that by playing the ball out wide they would be too strong for the Kibworth side, this is what they did. From here on in the Extras dominated. Kibworth scored no more points as the Extras notched up a total of nine tries.

There were tries for Rob Mcleod, Paul Ratcliffe (two), Kevin Smith (two), Dave Tomkins, Steve Marsden, Paul Rigby and colt Richard Mariner.

The finest try of the afternoon came when Steve Marsden kicked the ball high and across the pitch, to be caught by Paul Ratcliffe who was chasing forward on the far wing. Paul then popped the ball to Rob Mcleod. He then ran the ball in for the score.
