 Second defeat for Extras 

When Old Northamptonians cried off again on Thursday evening the Extras found themselves with a pool fixture against Biggleswade 2nds XV. The game started well for Ampthill as they dominated the set pieces in the early stages. Good positional kicking from fly half Ian McGregor meant a lot of the early rugby was played in Biggy’s half. Unfortunately they failed to break through the Biggleswade defence to score. 

The first try came for Biggy when against the run of play they scored a breakaway try. A short while later Kevin Smith, Paul Ratcliffe and Steve Marsden chased a kicked through ball to the line. Steve Marsden got to the ball before it had crossed the line but Kevin Smith just behind him managed to ground the ball over the line.  

Biggy struck back with a second try and then scored a penalty to leave the half time score thirteen to eight in favour of the home team. 

With second half injuries to Steve Marsden and Ian McGregor the Extras midfield became weakened. Biggy went on to score three second half tries, one an interception, as the Extras lost a little of their composure.  

The Extras did however finish the game well and aggressively after an incident in which a Biggleswade player attempted to stamp on the head of Kevin Smith.
