Dunstable 3rd XV 19 – Ampthill Extras 7

 Unable at Dunstable.

The Extras suffered their fifth defeat of the season as they went down to Dunstable 3rd XV in a hard fought contest over at Dunstable.

With a couple of late arrivals the game kicked of as soon as the last Ampthill player took to the field. With no time to warm up or practice the Extras started slowly and lacked any kind of passion in the opening exchanges of the match.

The Extras were soon down by two tries and a penalty to nil. Playing with a low sun in their eyes they were glad to see half time.

The second half saw a greatly improved performance from the Extras. The Extras were now playing with much more conviction and could have had a couple of tries to their credit had it not been for some unlucky handling errors on the last pass. Matters were not helped when Phil Stanton was sin binned for ten minutes for allegedly kicking out at a Dunstable player. Dunstable scored a further three points from the resultant penalty to take their lead to sixteen points.

The Extras still piled on the pressure and eventually from short range, Tom Gray playing his first game of the season crossed the line to get Ampthill on the score sheet. Steve Marsden succefully converted the try to put the Extras back in the game.

Despite some great moves in the backs and strong attacks from the forwards the Ampthill Extras were denied any further scoring opportunities by the Dunstablian defence.

Dunstable scored a further penalty to make the final score nineteen points to seven.
