Bridlington 2/3rd XV 5 – Ampthill Extras 14
Preparations for the Extras’ first tour match began at 6pm on the previous evening in the Engine and Tender with a team an eleven hour ‘team bonding session’.
The first forty minutes match was against tour hosts Bridlington. Brid, who had previously won their first match against fellow tourists Cleethorpes, battled hard to try to beat the Extras and take the trophy.
Despite Gary Bass presenting the opposition with the ball for an early try, the Extras from then on in was solid. Dave Tomkins led by example knocking down anything that came near him. The rest of the team followed.
It was then down to Tom Gray to lead the way in attack. With two great runs, one ending up in his own try and the other making way for Gareth Williams to touch down, gave the Extras a fourteen points to five victory.
