Peterborough 4th XV 5 - Ampthill Extras 22
Extras concede a try.
It was two out of two wins for the Extras as they travelled up the A1 to Peterborough for a much tougher encounter than the previous week.
Fly half Gareth Williams was first to score when he saw a gap yards from the line and burst through to touch down.
Lapse defence by the Extras enabled Peterborough to level at five a piece before Tom Gray was next to score for Ampthill.
Another break by Tom Gray and a pass to Liam Duffin who in turn found John Roberts outside him left John ‘Scouser’ Roberts just one player to barge out of the way to give the Extras a ten point half time lead.
Peterborough came back hard at the start of the second half and it was only some brave defence work by the entire Extras team that prevented the home side from scoring a second try. This seemed to raise the spirits of the visiting team and the pressure was all on the Peterborough side from here on in.
With refereeing decisions preventing any decent second phase ball the Extras only scored one second half try when scrum half Dougey Park beat two Peterborough players and shipped the ball to Steve Marsden who had a clear run in to score.
Steve Marsden converted his own try to give him a one hundred percent successful kicking rate.
Paul Ratcliffe’s kicking boots had deserted him this match as he missed all three of his conversion attempts.
