Ampthill Extras 36 – Northampton Old Scouts 3rd XV 3

Old Scouts lose their path.

It was a very different story from a few weeks ago when the Extras suffered their biggest defeat of the season against Northampton Old Scouts in the corresponding away fixture.

Tom Read opened up the scoring as the Extras played up the Ampthill hill in the first half. The only response from Old Scouts was a penalty.

The first half came to an abrupt end when eight minutes from time the referee pulled a calf muscle and could no longer continue his role in the match. Ampthill’s John Cresswell stepped in and the match continued.

Now playing downhill, the Extras took control of the match. Will Knox returning to the Extras after three year absence charged over the line for a try.

Another try came for Tom Gray after Liam Duffin prevented an Old Scouts penalty from crossing the touchline deep within the Extras’ twenty two metre line. His resultant charge gained the yardage before being tackled, the ball was recycled back to the Extras and then Tom did the rest.

The Extras defence being marshalled by Steve Marsden and Dave Tomkins ensured the Scouts did not cross the try line.

Another Tom Gray try and two further Tom Read tries came in the second half. Tom Read scored two conversions and his brother also scored one to give the Extras a thirty six point to three victory.
