Letchworth 3rd XV 7 - Ampthill Extras 55

Letchworth take their turn.

It was Letchworth’s turn to host the try scoring fest that is Extras rugby.

Gareth Williams was a rejuvenated player after his hat-trick of tries playing on the wing for the Extras. Two of these tries came in the early stages of the game to show the Extras as the finer finishers with the ball in hand.

In these early stages, Ampthill completely dominated the scrums. Needless to say they were a tad disappointed when a Letchworth prop left the field early resulting in passive scrums for the majority of the match.

Letchworth were fortunate enough to have two subs at their disposal. The pair spent much of their sidelined time expressing in a boastful manner, the difference they would make once on the field. The Extras were a little disappointed when these two players eventually joined the Letchworth ranks. They had very little effect on the match and the Extras still looked the better side.

Letchworth did however compete well in the rucks and mauls. It took all of the Extras forward’s efforts to ensure Letchworth did not convert this work into points.

Nine tries in total for the Extras ensured the visiting team travelled home a half century of richer. Robert McInnes, Lee Clark Justin Cobley and Chris Denton all scored a try each. ‘Two Try Tommy’ failed, yet again to get a hat-trick.

Tom Read converted five of the nine tries whilst.
