Ampthill Extras 72 – Milton Keynes 0
There was only one incident from this match that is worth mentioning. Early in the first half Rob Hill broke through the Milton Keynes defence using all the energy the thirty nine year old could muster only to be tap tackled once he had crossed the try line. Rob was quickly up on his feet and scurried over the dead ball line where he dived to put the ball down. Extras’ very own Brian ‘Thrombosis’ odd referee for the day, had no choice but to disallow the try.
This was not the first time that Rob Hill had misjudged a line on the pitch. Many of the more seasoned Extras remember when as a supporting winger, Rob had run down the length of the pitch calling for, and more surprisingly, being passed the ball whilst being on the wrong side of the touchline.
Fortunately to save Rob’s blushes, Tom Read (4), John Roberts (3), Paul New (2), Gary Bass, Tom Gray and Chris Denton all scored tries with no reply from the opposition, to win by seventy two points to nil.
