Ampthill Extras 32 – Wellingborough 15
There was not let up in the weather from the previous week so yet again the Extras’ game was played on a hard and dry surface.
It was no surprise that Wellingborough brought down a team dominated by forward power. The visitors won the toss and elected to play up hill in the first half. During this time the Extras notched up five tries to Wellingborough’s two. These came from Gareth Williams, Justin Cobley and a jugs worth, three, for Rob Campbell.
The Extras new that the second half would be tough as they played up the Ampthill slope. Much of the half was played in the Extras’s twenty two as they defended maul after maul from the Wellingborough onslaught. Wellingborough did eventually broke the home team’s defence and score. This score was fortunately wiped clear when Richard Beasley scored as a result of am Ampthill breakaway.
The Extras held firm for the rest of the match to finish victors.
