Bletchley 2nd XV 45 - Ampthill Extras 7
Unfortunately the score line for Ampthill’s toughest test of their campaign does not really reflect how well the Extras played for much of the game. Ampthill found themselves up against a much better drilled team that probably even do that training thing.
Bletchley boasted a back row that worked their way round the park giving endless position to the home team. This did not deter the Extras who fought hard throughout the first half. The score at half time was only 12-0 to Bletchley. This was the result of two soft tries where the Ampthill defenders acted more like ushers than tacklers. Extras’ cause was not helped when they lost Justin Cobley and then Ian Browning through injuries.
They second half saw Bletchley increase their lead with another try before Ampthill notched up their only points through a Shaun Wood try that he then converted. A quick succession of tries for Bletchley destroyed the Extras chances of pulling anything back from the match
