Bugbrooke 2nd XV 22 - Ampthill Extras 22
As well as getting lost on the way to Bugbrooke’s ground the Extras seemed to have lost any self belief when they kicked off the match.
A poor start saw the Extras 10 points down in as many minutes. Bugbrooke had scored two tries almost ushered in by Ampthill.
Then the Extras started to play. With ball in hand the Extras looked threatening. The fight back was on. Ampthill scored the next two tries to level the scores. Centre Dave Tomkins and winger Dave Backhouse the scorers.
In the second half further tries from Chris Denton and Terry Nelson plus a successful conversion for Ian Browning gave the Extras a twelve point lead.
Bugbrooke had their own comeback with the next two tries, the second of which came after the visitors had all stopped thinking Bugbrooke had knocked on, the referee thought otherwise and awarded the try.
Matters weren’t helped when Leigh Clark thought he’d tell the referee exactly what he thought of his decision. The referee had no option but to show Leigh what he kept in his pocket. Leigh spent the next ten minutes watching the match.
Eighteen year old Jack Hughes impressed at scrum half on his debut for the team.
