Luton 3rd XV 39 - Ampthill Extras 17
The Extras knew they would be up against it when they played away to Luton and despite the effort they put in, they couldn’t manage a victory away to a team determined to put one over their rivals.
The game kind of went like this; they scored, we scored, they scored, we scored. Then, unfortunately they scored, scored again and then scored once more. Three tries down was quite a gap.
The cause wasn’t helped when flanker Richard Beasley left the field with what was later diagnosed as a broken finger.
Despite this, the Extras, playing a tight game fought back and were the first to score in the second half bringing the gap down to two tries. As the game went on Luton’s proved to be the better side and ran in two further tries o claim the victory and crucial league points.
Ampthill’s first try came from Adam Wilson who weaved his slight frame over the lie after two dummies and a side step. The other two were scored by John Kitchiner who scored a brace for a change.
There were Extras debuts for Gareth Wyn and Gav’s mate Colin.
Darren Jones was successful in scoring one conversion.
