Daventry 3rd XV 5 - Ampthill Extras 66

The Extras revelled in the wet, muddy conditions and managed to score ten tries despite the conditions. Gez Ingarfield opened the scoring after a driving maul by the Extras’ forwards. John Roberts got the second shortly after. Then it was the turn of the backs when the ball was spun wide to winger Richard Mardle. Terry Nelson ran the next one in almost unopposed as some of the Dav players swung their handbags in the middle of the pitch. Rob Hill ran in the last try of the half and it was clear the Extras were firmly in control.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first, the only difference being that the players were slightly wetter & muddier than the first half. Second half tries came for Chris Denton, Richard Redman who had moved to the wing after an injury to Ian Browning, John Roberts and an interception for Dave Tomkins.

Daventry, who didn’t give up the fight, scored a late consolation try, by their winger running with the ball the whole length of the pitch.

Leigh Clark was successful with the boot on eight occasions to make the final score sixty six points to five.
