Kettering 7 - Ampthill Extras 61

After around twenty minutes, centre Ian Browning had scored three tries against Kettering. He would go on to score a further four bringing his tally to no fewer than seven in the match. This was by no means a one man show as all his tries were well worked team efforts with both forwards and backs linking well.

There were also tries for Terry Nelson and just the one for John Kitchiner. Leigh Clark’s boot was on form missing just one of the nine conversion attempts.

When Ampthill needed to defend they were strong, often back in numbers often turning defence into attack. Kettering never gave up and earned a consolation try after a little indecision at the back of an Ampthill scrum.
