It had been a long time since Ampthill had returned from Cambridge with a win so it was with great pleasure that the team returned to Ampthill after a victory in which they had dominated in almost every aspect of play.
First half tries came for Shaun Wood who scored after some great interaction between the Extras pack and two for lock John Roberts. The three try lead would have been greater had fly-half Shaun Wood managed to ground the ball after crossing the line for the Extras, he was however prevented by a great tackle from a defending Cambridge player.
The Extras scored only one try in the second half. Terry Nelson made a break up the wing, nobody’s quite sure how he wasn’t caught and tackled but he wasn’t and he scored.
Shaun Wood was again denied a try late in the match when he was tackled short of the line after making a break down the wing.
Cambridge did start to fight back fore the last quarter of the match. Their hard work, especially in the pack, paid off and they were rewarded with a consolation try.
