Ampthill Extras 0  -  Northampton Casuals 7

Yet again the Extras came up against a team that appear to train before they play! A little confused the Extras’ backs stayed huddled together in the clubhouse watching their opposition and refusing to get changed until hey saw them knock some balls on. Once they did they could go downstairs and get changed.

With a good referee this would have been a great contest. As it was a few critical, ill judged decisions by the match official left the home team feeling a little aggrieved. The Casuals had a couple of fast backs that with ball in hand caused danger to the Extras defence. One did in fact break the line of defence in the first half and scored to give the Casuals a seven point start.

The Extras then went on the attack. The ball was being recycled well by the home team but some very strange decisions by the referee that appeared to have an assistant that was wearing the number nine jersey for The Casuals.

The referee continued to make strange decisions throughout the eighty minutes that seemed to do nothing but create bewilderment from all thirty players and those watching.

The Extras battled hard throughout the game and defended well when necessary. Richard Beasley made a welcome return after injury and celebrated the occasion with some ferocious tackling.

In the second half the Extras did eventually score a try through John Kitchiner, or so they thought. The referee blew his whistle and signalled a forward  pass. Even some of the visitors were shaking their heads in disbelief.
