Ampthill Extras 38 – Brackley 2nd XV10
The Extras were a little concerned when they saw their opposition warming up an hour before kick off. But despite some great moments the young Brackley side didn’t quite have the experience to beat the Extras on their own turf.
Laurie Barlow jnr. had a great game on the wing in his first full appearance for the Extras and was rewarded with try. Kitch was on fine form and scored a hat-trick. Derek Welton also touched down but the pick of the crop was from Darren Oatley who ran from behind his own try line, broke through seven tackles running the length of the pitch (or so he was saying by 8 o’clock that evening) and scored.
There was a welcome return to the Extras for Mark McKinlay though a lot of him, some five stone, failed to turn up.
