Tries: Tony Wilison, Will Knox, Phil Stanton, Ally Gonse (3), Steve Marsden, John Wilkinson, Matt Taylor, Jamie Dix
It would
have been hard for skipper Tony Wilison to ask much more from the Extras and
indeed himself on what he claimed to be his last game of rugby as the pipe and
slippers beckon for the seasoned lock forward.
Ampthill were expecting much stiffer opposition for their last game of the season but it was a much weakened Vauxhall 1st team that arrived at Dillingham park. It was not too long into the game that the Extras realised they would have a W on the card after 80 minutes. The youngsters in the Ampthill backs kept the pace of the game beyond the reach of Vauxhall.
Tries were being scored at a regular rate coming from Will Knox, Phil Stanton, Ally Gonse (3), Steve Marsden (3), John Wilkinson, Matt Taylor, Jamie Dix (2) & Andy Morgan. The pick of the bunch for sentimental reasons came when Liam Duffin tackled short of the line, looked to his right to see a supercharged Tony Wilison powering alongside. A short pop and Tony was over for a much-deserved try.
Pistols were firing well into the night as the Gunslingers partied well past midnight.
We await September.
